Refurbishment K, Hamburg 2023 - 2026
A young family is moving into a two-storey flat in a turn-of-the-century flat.
Over the decades, the flat had been heavily altered by previous residents and was, in terms of both design and technical features, stuck in the 1980s.
There were many challenges, such as the staircase’s layout in relation to the kitchen, heritage protection requirements and structural integrity.
The flat was thoroughly refurbished and the floor plan carefully optimised to meet the new requirements. The conservatory, which had been added in the 1980s, was removed to enlarge the living area. All floors were replaced and underfloor heating installed. The centrally located staircase was completely refurbished and its run straightened. The new folded steel staircase extends delicately over the kitchen.
The new, modern flat blends harmoniously with the existing structure.
